about

In the Summer of 1984 Sean Hill, John Mettam, and, Jon Johnson met up as "The Norm" for the first time since the DC gig by Secret Squirrel. Peter Moffett went on to pursue new ventures so a new group and name had been formed. The new trio began rehearsing and recording their current repertoire of original songs with several new ones. This is the current single from those recordings The Norm did at "The Mettam House" in Potomac, Maryland. The Mettams had a Teac 4-40 1/4" 4 track recorder. A prized piece of machinery to own if you were an aspiring musician. Always a place of inspiration the 3 Mettam boys could have been a band with their combined talents. This is the only track that was not recorded with all of us present. Sean and John laid down the main tracks and I came in at a later night and went direct into the console. Conflicting "other work" schedules prevented us from meeting up again. sean and John spent a lot of time fleshing this one out with some nice studio trickery. The result being this is the most polished of the batch with a message just in time for Earth Day.

We were successful at landing a few gigs between 1984 and 1986 in DC. Some of the coveted places snubbed our Prog Dino bones to the curb. Anything remotely sounding like Yes, Rush, or worse was considered passe then. We didn't care we were doing what we wanted and thought our ways and methods were better than any pressure from the top 40. Nowadays we may have had a better shot at getting accepted in quiet circles in today's World being that all things retro and Prog are cooler than ever depending on your point of view.
